Plugging the gap in unemployment

Unemployment has become an unavoidable problem within today's society. The current unemployment rate amongst 16-17 year olds is 35.9% and it stands at 18% amongst 18-24 year olds. It is more important than ever to recognise the need to invest in our future workforce.

GTG Training is proud to offer a range of apprentice programmes, aimed at people aged 16 or over who are looking for the opportunity to ‘earn while they learn’. These programmes give apprentices the chance to work towards a recognised qualification, skilled employment and greater career prospects. From motor vehicle technicians and vehicle refinishers to business administrators and customer services, there is a huge number of career paths to choose from. Apprentices can join straight from school, from further education or from their current employment.

An apprenticeship usually takes from 12 to 36 months to complete, with apprentices gaining an NVQ level 3 qualification from on completion. Recognised nationwide, each programme encompasses the skills and knowledge required for an apprentice’s chosen field. Experienced instructors and assessors support and encourage the trainees, ensuring they are qualified to the highest level.

Apprenticeships are not only beneficial to the apprentices themselves, but also to businesses. The Institute of Motor Industry has recently called on the automotive sector to overcome its doubts about employing young people. Research shows that, by the end of their third year, an apprentice can generate between 150% and 300% ROI, based on a £50 hourly charge rate. Meaning that every £1 invested has the potential to generate the business between £1.50 and £3.00.
